Land of the FREE…

We had a great fourth of July! The kids had fun, getting candy, eating ice cream, and I love watching fireworks. It is one of my favorite nights of the summer.

At the end of the day, I was smiling and grateful to be an American and live in a free country. How about you?

DIY armoire

About a month and a half ago, I went to the Daybreak, Community Yard sale with 2 of my friends. This is what we come home, well what I came home with. They also came home with a lot of stuff. So here is the story I got this piece for $35.00. Hooray,, Bargain. I was so excited. My husband (aka Mr. Right) I have to say that because at the end of this post you will all agree with me. I just know it. It is ALL WOOD, extremely heavy and perfect for a DIY project. I was thinking we totally have room for this, we have bedrooms with no furniture in them. Awesome,  I had some friends delivery it to the house, and I wasn’t home yet. But Scott was, at first he told them, no I know Vicki and she would never buy that. Until he said these magic words, she said she was going to “RE-DO IT” SAND IT AND PAINT IT BLACK”. Oh ya that sounds like her. Scott said. YUP that was my idea.

So we started sanding, and more sanding, then it was just Scott sanding. Took it all apart and it was beautiful wood.

unimaginable..

My friend just shared a story about her son,who had drowned this past weekend. First of all he is home and doing well. As for me floods of memories and thoughts came rushing back to me. Rewind 4 years ago 2008 this week, we happened to be in Jackson Hole, WY. Scott had to do some work up there so we all tagged along. The first night we got there we stayed at the Comfort Inn. Seriously I’m not kidding the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The next morning I booked another room at another hotel and was checked out, packed and ready to leave when Scott came back to have lunch with us. We enjoyed our day at Jackson, The Teton Villages, and the Ridgley Believe or not Museum, eating at the Maggie Moose. That night we stayed at the Marriot and was so worth the extra 25.00 a night. I still can’t believe how horrible our room was the first night. Moving along the next morning Scott went and got us all Breakfast (which he usually does when we stay in a hotel) and me and the kids hang out in bed and watch cartoons. Its awesome. We had a very quite morning and our room was a suite so it had separate rooms and a kitchen. I remember the kids weren’t jumping all around like they usual did. I also remember I was able to read a lot about Jackson in a Magazine. I had a calm, peaceful, quiet feeling starting the day. Next up for us was Swimming in the hotel pool. We all got ready went down and we were the only ones there. Sweet, even better the kids loved it. At first we all got in and then I got out. I went to get everyone towels and started playing games with the boys. Whitney was in the shallow end on the stairs. I was still throwing in these large plastic rings to the boys and they would dive in and get them in the Deep end. They asked me to go get more rings and another ball in the room where I got the towels, I did and just a couple of seconds went by I turned around and saw Whitney flooding face down all sprawled out her hair floating, no movement, no splashing, no bubbles. I screamed for the boys, I jumped in and got her to the side of the pool. She was so lump, I couldn’t see her eyes, she was cold and lips blue. Instantly CPR come rushing back to me, I remembered everything I was taught years earlier. It was like I had done it before. I gave her compressions on her chest, tilted her head, gave her small quick breaths. I did this 3 times and then the unimaginable happened she started throwing up water. She started Crying and I just held her and was in total shock of what just happened. I remember she was angry, she said she was yelling that her feet wouldn't touch anymore, and her arms were too tired to splash. I cried too, I couldn’t believe this had just happened. I remember thinking this is like my worst nightmare. It was all my fault. How could I ever tell Scott, or would he be able to forgive me? Millions of cinereous were running thru my head. I prayed Whitney would be able to forget this experience. That she would not be fearful of the water. I was so grateful, I was pleading and giving thanks over and over. I was telling Whitney how sorry I was and that I loved her so much.  I’m not usually the one to jump up and move right into action. I leave that up to Scott or anyone else whom ever is around, I just stand there. I’m not proud of this either I just know from other experiences I am not usually the first one to respond. But this time I didn’t even really panic. I was calm, I know now that I had the Lord with me and also the Tender Promptings of the Holy Ghost. I know why I read the article that morning about Summer Drowning's, in the hotel magazine and while doing so picturing myself doing CPR on someone. All the images of performing this on someone was so vivid in my mind. I missed nothing. I remembered it all. It all made sense now. The Lord was helping me and preparing me. Little did I know I would be doing this act on my own daughter in just a couple of hours. I have and always will believe everything happens for a reason. But I also am so grateful for the BE STILL moments, I have in my life. The moments where everything is quiet, and calm, moments when you are really listening for an answer.  Tristin was 11 at this time and knew what to do as well, I remember him telling me, good job mom that’s right you are doing it right. They were coaching me on and helping me every step of the way. We were in the elevator and Gavin said “Mom don’t you think we should say a prayer?”. Of course I said. We got back to our room and we were all so quiet still, the boys were still so worried about Whitney and couldn't wait to call there Dad. I also remember a funny thing Tristin said a few hours after this happened. He said “That's what I call TEAMWORK”. I agreed with him and told him I could have done it with them, and he said “No Mom I am talking about Heavenly Father and the Holy Ghost with there help Whitney is still here”.

a BIT of our day today

It is the last day of school for Gavin and Whitney today. They both had a wonderful year and learned a lot and grew has individuals. They had great teachers and good friends. With all that done, let the Summer begin. Late nights, cousin time, easy dinners, tons of friends hanging out, camping, scout camps, EFY, Basketball camps, park time, popsicles, fireworks, riding bikes, sidewalk chalk etc. But for today we will appreciate the little things.

Gavin and Ms. Rose, and his 6th grade class.

Ms. Rose said to me Today  about Gavin "I love that kid, I can’t wait to see what he becomes”

and I thought to myself I can’t either…

When I walked in Ms. Rose’s class today it was silent, calm, very peaceful. She is so organized and clean, an amazing teacher. Gavin is very lucky to have been taught by her.

Whitney and Mrs. Morrison, and her Best Friends!

She didn’t want a picture of her whole 4th grade class.

That’s how girls are I guess. I walked in to Mrs. Morrison class room and it was full of laughter and pizza, drinks, wrappers, and I brought otter pops to go with it all, the tag said “stay COOL this Summer” Love, Whitney!

Mrs. Morrison is a gentle, sweet, kind lady. Whitney and her got along very well and was very glad to have her has a teacher.
